Flames burn Kings for first win, 5-1.

FOXBORO – Not intent on going back home empty handed, the Vermont Flames took it to the South Shore Kings in their final opening round game of the 2017 Midget Fall Classic on Saturday at Foxboro Sports Center. The Flames defeated the Kings 5-1 to finish their U16 slate of games with a record of 1-1-1.

Vermont wasted little time in getting to the winning, scoring twice in the game’s first 2:30. Jeffrey Truex at 1:32 and Sam Gibbs at 2:18 credited with the goals to stoke the Flames cushion.

Danny Savary cut the Kings’ deficit in half with a goal assisted on by Austin Ricker at 15:47, but South Shore not only did not get any closer, but Vermont also had their two-goal advantage back before heading to the locker room for intermission.

A power play goal by Garrison Gannon at 23:46 made it 3-1 Vermont at the break. Coming out of the break, Truex and Gibbs inversed the order, but were both back on the score sheet with goals at 11:49 and 20:15 to put the game away for the Flames at 5-1.

Gannon was credited with leading all scorers in the contest, totaling a goal and two assists.
