Militia U16 opens Sunday with win

FOXBORO – In the first of two contests on the day for the team, East Coast Militia doubled up South Shore Kings White for a 6-3, U16 Division win on Sunday morning at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Things looked good for the Kings at the start. Still in search of their first tournament win, South Shore opened up a 2-0 advantage over the Militia with goals at 4:37 and 6:05 by Cooper Wolff and Jared Costello, respectively.

Slowly the Militia worked their way back into the game, Curtis Judd cutting the deficit in half at the 12:00 mark. A pair of quick strikes late in the first half then gave the Militia the lead heading into the break, scoring just 16-seconds apart at 21:18 and 21:34 to make it 3-2 East Coast.

The Militia rally continued into the second with another pair of unanswered goals at 0:17 and 5:34 to widen the gap to 5-2. From there the scoring was quite until late when Wolff stemmed the bleeding with his second of the game, a power play goal at 24:45. The game, however, was out of reach and then sealed by an empty net goal from Matt O’Connor, who finished the scoring at 24:57.

O’Connor led the game in scoring with three goals and two assists.
