Terriers, Wings U18 play to opening draw

FOXBORO – The U18 Terriers and NS Wings started their weekend play on even footing, skating to a 2-2 draw in their opening contest at the 2015 Midget Fall Classic on Saturday at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Chances went both ways, but the scoring was low, each side only able to break through once as the Terriers and Wings played to a 1-1 tie in the game’s opening half. Benjamin Coccoluto gave the Wings the first lead of the contest with his score at 9:02. It was a lead that nearly lasted into the break, but Danny Ryan came through late to even the score for the Terriers, the goal coming at 21:12.

The game’s second half played out in a similar fashion, just in reverse order, as it was the Terriers grabbing their first lead of the contest on a Patrick Quirk goal at 9:23 of the frame. The Wings, however, continued to press and, with time wearing thin, broke through to draw the game back to even. Justin Sullivan netting the 2-2 equalizer with just 2:15 remaining in the contest.

Terriers defenseman Patrick Twombly finished with a game-high two points, assisting on both of is team’s goals. Benjamin Carlson backstopped the Wings effort, while William Huntress and Brendan Burns split duties in the Terriers net.
