U16 Islanders hold off Rangers in the second

DEDHAM – The Islanders Hockey Club U16 started their stint at the 2016 Midget Fall Classic with an earned win, holding of the Boston Jr. Rangers 5-3 in the first game of the day played at the Boch Ice Arena on Saturday morning.

It was a good start for the Islanders. Hot after the opening puck drop, Ian Maguire had them out in front just 1:53 into the contest. Maguire then upped the Isles’ advantage to two with his second score at 13:43 of the opening half.

Despite the start, Boston did not let the game get away, notching a pair late to bring the game back to even before the intermission. Anthony Bonfilio at 20:31 and Matthew Fiorenza at 24:23 making to 2-2 with the teams headed to the locker rooms.

The Islanders were at it again to open the second half. Jack Corcoran and Edward Field with a score each to once again open a two-goal advantage. This one coming just 2:55 into the second half. The Rangers, however, were once again the next team on the board as Garrett Young cut the deficit to 4-3 at 8:46. Unfortunately for Boston, they were not able to catch the Islanders the second time around.

Young’s score was his side’s final of the contest, while Maguire completed his hat trick with a power play score to give the Islanders their third two-goal advantage of the contest. The defender’s tally at 17:50 of the second half bringing the score to its 5-3 final.
